Why should I book through BirdDog?
BirdDog makes it easy to get outside and adventure. We exist to provide Outdoorsman with exceptional hunting and fishing experiences. By partnering with ranch owners and fishing boats, we provide easy access to a broad range of experiences. Our partners include properties with five-star lodging and amenities as well as those with more modest accommodations. Similarly, some expereinces are set up for trophy hunts with a high chance of success for a once-in-a-lifetime trophy, while others are geared toward the chase. BirdDog aims to ensure both new and seasoned outdoorsman alike confidence that their experience will be what they expect. Above all, our goal is to facilitate memorable experiences for all hunting and fishing guests.

When do I get details about my booked trip?
You will receive a trip confirmation email immediately after booking. All fishing trip details can be expected to hit your inbox 30 days prior to arrival. The daily trip schedule and exact location details will be sent approximately one week prior to your trip. In the meantime, please feel free to contact us with questions at support@birddogit.com.

Do I need a license in order to fish?
Everyone 12 years old and older is required to have a valid fishing license, which can be purchased dockside with the help of the crew or online prior to arriving at the dock. It is recommended to purchase your license on site before your excursion, as the copy needs to be printed and without error regarding the specific day you are fishing. Depending on your preference, there are several license options available: 1 Day, 1 Week, or Annual.

How long is the half day fishing trip? Full day?
The Half Day trip is approximately 4 hours; from 6:30AM until 10:30-11:00AM while the Full Day trip lasts until 2:00-3:00PM. If you would like to consider timing that is different than above, the Captain can be consulted for feasibility.

What do I bring with me on my trip?
Other than a being ready to have some fun, you should bring sunglasses, hat, sunscreen and a light jacket. Although you can escape inside the cabin, mornings can be a little brisk as you head out to sea. We always recommend cameras to record these unforgettable memories and breathtaking views of El Arco on the way out. If you’re prone to motion sickness, we recommend some Dramamine or check with your doctor about a scopolamine patch.

Are we going to catch fish?
While fishing is always dependent on weather, season and conditions, the Captain and crew fish these waters daily and know where to find the bite. The number of fish caught can never replace the time spent on the water with family or friends! We fish year-round for the Striped Marlin, Mahi Mahi (dorado), and Yellowfin Tuna. We also see our fair share of Blue/Black Marlin, Sailfish, Roosterfish, and Grouper.

Can we keep any of the fish we catch?
Make sure and talk to your Captain about keeping fish. Some are worthy of preparing and consuming while others are more for sport. Mahi mahi is always a great choice! We release ALL billfish.

Can I fly home with some fillets?
Heck yeah, you can! Fish need to be frozen solid and/or packed in dry ice. They can be checked in your baggage (could get messy), carried on board (better be completely frozen) or bring a solid cooler (we love the Yeti Hopper Flip series). There are several options at the marina to help prepare and package your fish for travel. Please ask your Captain for details.
